Nutella Puff Pastry Trees (Printable)

Flaky puff pastry filled with creamy Nutella, twisted into festive tree shapes and baked to a golden crisp.

# Components:

→ Pastry

01 - 2 sheets frozen puff pastry (8.8 oz each), thawed

→ Filling

02 - 4.2 oz Nutella or chocolate-hazelnut spread

→ Finish

03 - 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
04 - 1 tablespoon powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

# Method:

01 - Set the oven to 400°F and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
02 - Unroll both thawed puff pastry sheets. Evenly spread Nutella over one sheet, leaving a 0.4-inch border around the edges.
03 - Place the second puff pastry sheet gently over the Nutella-covered sheet to sandwich the filling.
04 - Using a sharp knife or tree-shaped cookie cutter, cut out Christmas tree shapes approximately 5–6 inches tall. Re-roll trimmings to cut additional shapes as needed.
05 - Transfer the trees onto the baking tray. Carefully cut horizontal slits on each side of the trees, leaving the central trunk intact. Twist each branch gently to create a decorative effect.
06 - Brush each tree thoroughly with the beaten egg to promote browning.
07 - Bake in the preheated oven for 16 to 18 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
08 - Allow pastries to cool slightly. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving warm or at room temperature.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • They come together in under 40 minutes, which means you can impress people without spending your whole day in the kitchen.
  • The layers of flaky pastry with melted Nutella in the center create this perfect contrast of crispy and creamy that keeps you reaching for another.
02 -
  • If your pastry sheets aren't fully thawed, they'll crack and tear—always let them sit out for at least 30 minutes before you start.
  • Don't skip the egg wash; it's the difference between pastries that look homemade and ones that look store-bought.
03 -
  • If you want extra-shiny pastries, brush them with egg wash twice—once before shaping and once right before baking.
  • For a fancier presentation, dust them with powdered sugar right after they come out of the oven while they're still warm, so it sticks.
